EMERGENCY SERVICES PROJECT • ACTON ACT

Acton ESA Station

Windows, glazed doors, louvres, screens and sunshades for the combined ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue station, built by Shaw Building Group and designed by AMC Architecture.

The project brief

The station needed a robust external glazing package that brought controlled daylight into offices, response areas, amenities and shared spaces. Dark aluminium framing and horizontal shading were coordinated with the building’s civic and operational character.

What the project required

The package brought together thermal, acoustic, bushfire, security, weather and accessibility requirements. It included double-glazed windows, nominated openings requiring BAL-29 ember protection, wide door assemblies and storm-louvre banks approximately 9.4 metres wide.

The window and door package

Frames and configurations

ThermAFrame 150mm centre-pocket framing for fixed and awning windows and commercial hinged doors, plus a three-track, four-panel sliding door. Hunter EVO 150mm framing serves acoustic openings and large storm-louvre assemblies.

Glazing and screening

Project-specific Low-E double-glazed units include 6mm PH30 Low-E / 10mm argon / 8.38mm clear laminated glass at nominated windows. Invisi-Gard mesh and corrosion-resistant BAL-29 ember screens were specified to selected openings.

Finish and solar control

Dulux Duratec Zeus Basalt Satin (90Z7865S) framing, fixed storm louvres and custom sunshades. Commercial hardware, seals and thresholds were selected for the station’s high-use environment.

How Performance Windows delivered

Performance Windows coordinated ThermAFrame thermally broken framing, Hunter EVO acoustic framing and flush-glazed framing for the storm-louvre assemblies. Custom 300mm and 600mm sunshades, nominated stainless-steel screens and detailed shop drawings brought the separate components together at the cladding, structure and services interfaces.
